Wings of Glass

Narrative Short - Writer, Director & Editor

Wings of Glass is a mediation on friendship and the turbulence of growing apart. The short film explores ambition and fragility, and the poignance of confronting the past.

The Concept

Following the perspectives of two dancers, the short film uses visual space to combine shared memories and ruminations. From the choreography to the mise-en-scène, I aimed to evoke delicacy and lyricism on screen.

To communicate the themes of ambition and fragility, I developed visual and auditory motifs; wings, glass, different fabrics and seascapes were central to the narrative.

Production

Filming in locations in Exeter and Exmouth, we filmed in early Autumn and wrapped up production in two days, navigating the challenges of a busy beach, unpredictable Autumnal weather (!) and a tight deadline alongside our university degrees.

I edited the film in Davinci Studio Resolve, learning from previous projects and taking forward new lessons. The short film was an exciting introduction to narrative filmmaking, and inspired me to start write longer, more ambitious projects to combine multiple disciplines.
