Earth Ritual

Photography and Videography

After moving to Bristol, I reached out to the Earth Ritual team and was invited to shoot at their first ecological circus performance in Winter, and again for their Spring Equinox. Through theatre, acrobatics, music, dance and ritual, it was a privilege to share the space, where the talented team cultivated an environment that honoured our deep belonging to earth and community.

The venue

Taking place in UNIT 15, a creation and training space in Bristol, it was an exciting opportunity to film and photograph in such an intimate and dramatically lit environment.

As an interactive theatre-in-the-round performance, this presented a rewarding challenge to seamlessly capture multiple angles without blocking any participants' view.

Capturing organic moments

We were enveloped by black curtains, allowing the performers to become the vibrant focal point in each image. Without a defined shot list, I was free to experiment with different angles and camera settings as the ritual flowed, including slow motion for the acrobatics and balancing high contrast shots with a soft ethereal quality in the edit.
